Clay County will be hosting a series of exciting eclipse themed events over the weekend of August 19th-21st, 2017 at Smithville Lake. If you want to experience this once-of-a-lifetime phenomenon in a truly unique way, then mark your calendars for these spectacular events:

Smithville Lake Horseback Scene

Eclipse Horseback Weekend

August 20th-21st – Smithville Lake (Crow’s Creek Campground)

Spend the weekend riding and watching the skies at scenic Smithville Lake! This package is an all-inclusive equestrian camping experience that comes complete with a guided trail ride along the lake during the hours of the eclipse! Riders will rest at a predesignated eclipse-watch rest stop for lunch just before the real show starts promptly at 1:07 p.m.

Sunday, August 20th:
  • 3:00 pm Check-in begins ‐ pick up glasses/info at check-in

Everybody should be a the lookout point by at this time so they are prepared for the totality ‐ lunch time!

Smithville Lake Boating Scene

Total Eclipse Boating Experience

August 21st – Smithville Lake

Experience this rare phenomenon on the waters of scenic Smithville Lake

This package is an all-inclusive eclipse boating experience that will give participants unrivaled views of this once-in-a-lifetime event! Boaters can rest assured that they will have nothing to worry about during their time on the water; an experienced driver will be provided for each boat.

A packed lunch will be prepared for each event participant.

here are only two boats available for this event (24’ pontoons) with nine available spots each. You don’t need nine people to reserve a spot on a boat, but be prepared to make new friends, as spots will not be wasted!

The eclipse begins at 11:41 am, so participants will want to be on the water well before that time! You can expect to be on the water for 3-4 hours. Contact the Park Office with specific questions (816) 407-3400.

Solar Beach Bash

August 19th – Smithville Lake (Little Platte Beach)

Experience this spectacular event in style with a summer beach bash!Spend a day of fun at the beach with a live DJ! Smithville Lake’s eclipse beach experience will be on Saturday, August 19th ‐ this event will be free to attend, however, a daily entry fee of $5 per vehicle will be charged.

Event Itinerary:

Beach is open from 8:30 am - Sunset.

A DJ will be present the afternoon of August, 19th - check back closer to event for a more detailed schedule!

Come to Smithville Lake for a truly unique solar eclipse viewing experience! If you're looking for an easy, yet beautiful way to experience the event, then drive down to one of Smithville Lake's designated viewing areas, park your car, and watch!

Designated eclipse viewing areas include: Paradise Pointe Marina parking lot & W Boat Ramp (to view from W Boat Ramp you will need to park your car and walk to specific viewing location).

A Guide to Solar Eclipse Hiking at Smithville Lake

Experience the solar eclipse in away only Smithville Lake can offer! Hit the trails during the hours of the eclipse and witness this rare event while surrounded by the beauty of the lake! Eclipse lookout points have been designated on each of the recommended trails, so you are guaranteed to have a great view!

Recommended Trails include:

Eagle's View
Easy walk, stays near shore, lots of good views, spots to sit along trail
Bonebender
Paved trail; stays near shoreline, plenty of good, unobstructed views
Cabin Fever
Closer to Crow's Creek, has two lookout points
